Van der Aa residency at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Michel van der Aa has been announced as one of three ‘house composers’ for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. This is a long-term partnership with one of the world’s great orchestras and will lead to the creation of several major new works over the next few years, including a large orchestral piece, a solo concerto and an evening-length Passion setting for soloists, choir and orchestra, which will be performed in 2017.

In addition to these premieres, the orchestra will perform Van der Aa’s existing orchestral music, including Spaces of Blank in 2013. They will also include chamber works in their AAA concert series, which brings performance together with film, debates and other interdisciplinary activities.

The other two composers who will join Van der Aa are Detlev Glanert and Richard Rijnvos.
