Network for new music in Hamburg

Hamburg’s Klang! network for new music has selected Michel van der Aa as its composer-in-residence for 2010–11.

As well as including lectures and masterclasses given by the composer, the season will feature four weekends focusing on Van der Aa’s chamber, ensemble and orchestral works, including the German premiere of his new piece for cello, string ensemble and film entitled Up-Close.

Established in 2008 by the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Klang! is one of 15 projects associated with Germany’s Netzwerk Neue Musik and unites ensembles, theatres, conservatories and other groups in innovative presentations of new music across the city (including a mobile Klang!-Container). Van der Aa follows Kaija Saariaho and George Aperghis as a Klang! composer-in-residence.
